Is Church Still Relevant Today?

It is a fair question.

In a world of endless information, streaming services, podcasts, self help books, and online communities, is church still relevant?

For many people, church feels like something from another era. Outdated. Institutional. Maybe even unnecessary.

And yet, something interesting is happening.

Even in a highly connected world, people feel increasingly disconnected. Even with more access to knowledge than ever before, many feel unsure about meaning. Even with countless online communities, loneliness remains common.

So maybe the question is not whether church is modern. Maybe the question is whether church still meets something deeply human.

Let’s explore that.

We are wired for community

No matter how independent we think we are, we are wired for real connection.

Not just followers.
Not just comments.
Not just surface level interactions.

We need people who know our names. Who notice when we are not around. Who sit with us in joy and in grief.

At its best, church is not a weekly event. It is a community. A place where relationships are built over time. A place where people share meals, support one another, and walk through life together.

In a world where many feel isolated, that kind of community is deeply relevant.

We are searching for meaning

Most of us spend our days busy. Work. School. Family. Schedules. Responsibilities.

But beneath the surface, there are bigger questions:

Why am I here?
What truly matters?
What does a good life look like?

Church creates space to wrestle with those questions.

Not with quick answers or clichés, but with thoughtful reflection rooted in the teachings of Jesus. His life continues to shape conversations about love, forgiveness, justice, humility, and purpose.

Relevance is not about trends. It is about meaning.

We need hope that lasts

News cycles move quickly. Culture shifts constantly. It is easy to feel uncertain about the future.

Church has always been about hope. Not naive optimism, but grounded hope. The belief that brokenness is not the final word. That grace is real. That restoration is possible.

For many, church becomes a place to breathe again. A place to remember that there is more to life than stress and survival.

Hope is never outdated.

Belonging still matters

One of the greatest challenges of our time is belonging.

You can be surrounded by people and still feel alone. You can have hundreds of connections and still wonder where you truly fit.

Church, when it reflects the heart of Jesus, becomes a place where people are welcomed as they are. Not because they have it all together. Not because they believe perfectly. But because they matter.

Belonging is not about everyone thinking the same way. It is about recognizing our shared humanity and welcoming others with the same grace Jesus shows us.

That will always be relevant.

But what about the church’s flaws?

This question deserves honesty.

Churches are made up of people. And people are imperfect. That means churches sometimes fall short. Sometimes they hurt people. Sometimes they get distracted from what matters most.

Acknowledging that does not weaken the church. It strengthens it.

At Centre Point Church in Langley, we do not claim to be perfect. We simply believe that the way of Jesus still offers something beautiful and necessary in today’s world.

Community.
Meaning.
Hope.
Belonging.

Those are not outdated ideas.

So is church still relevant?

If church is about performance, appearances, or empty ritual, then no.

But if church is about building authentic community, exploring life’s biggest questions, receiving forgiveness, discovering the way of Jesus, finding grounded hope, and creating space to belong, then yes. Deeply.

Relevance is not about keeping up with culture. It is about speaking to what never changes in the human heart. Our need for grace. Our longing for meaning. Our desire to be known, forgiven, and invited into a better way of living.

That will always matter.

Curious?

You do not have to decide from a distance.
